About Us

Crossroad South Church is a community of Christ-followers from diverse linguistic, geographic, and cultural backgrounds. We gather to glorify the Triune God, enjoy Him together, and grow in faithful Christian discipleship.

The sections below summarize the beliefs, mission priorities, leadership, governance, stewardship, membership, and core values that shape our life together as a local church.

Beliefs

What follows is our understanding of the basic essentials of the biblical, orthodox Christian faith. We regard these as theological convictions commonly held by Christ-followers throughout the history of Christian thought and teaching, as derived from the sixty-six books of the Bible.

The Bible

We believe the Bible, both the Old and New Testaments, to be the inspired Word of God, without error in the original writings, the complete revelation of God’s will for the salvation of men, and the divine and final authority for all Christian faith and practice. (2 Timothy 3:16–17; 2 Peter 1:20–21; Psalm 19:7; John 17:17)

God

We believe in one God, Creator of all things, infinitely perfect and eternally existing in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. (Genesis 1:1; Deuteronomy 6:4; Matthew 28:19; 2 Corinthians 13:14; Isaiah 6:3)

Jesus Christ

We believe that Jesus Christ is true God and true man, conceived of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He died on the cross as a sacrifice for our sins according to the Scriptures, was bodily raised on the third day, ascended into heaven, and now serves as our High Priest and Advocate. (John 1:1, 14; Isaiah 7:14; Luke 1:35; 1 Corinthians 15:3–4; Acts 1:9–11; Hebrews 4:14–16; 1 John 2:1)

The Holy Spirit

We believe that the ministry of the Holy Spirit is to glorify the Lord Jesus Christ and, in this age, to convict, regenerate, indwell, guide, instruct, and empower the believer for godly living and service. (John 16:8, 13–14; John 3:5–8; Romans 8:9–11; 1 Corinthians 2:13; Acts 1:8; Ephesians 5:18)

Man

We believe that man was created in the image of God but fell into sin and is therefore eternally separated from God. Only through regeneration by the Holy Spirit can salvation and eternal spiritual life be obtained. (Genesis 1:26–27; Genesis 3:1–24; Romans 3:23; Romans 6:23; Ephesians 2:1–3; John 3:3–7; Titus 3:5)

Cross

We believe that the blood of Jesus Christ, shed in His death on the cross, together with His resurrection from the dead, provides the only ground for justification and salvation for all who believe. Those who receive Jesus Christ are born of the Holy Spirit and become children of God. (Romans 3:24–25; Romans 5:8–9; Hebrews 9:22; 1 Corinthians 15:17; Acts 4:12; John 1:12; Ephesians 2:8–9)

Ordinances

We believe that water baptism and the Lord’s Supper are ordinances to be observed by the church during the present age. They are not, however, to be regarded as means of salvation. (Matthew 28:19–20; Romans 6:3–4; 1 Corinthians 11:23–26; Luke 22:19–20; Ephesians 2:8–9)

Missions

We believe the New Testament church showed much grace in contributions, whether small or large, toward the wider needs of the mission work happening around them. As a church we consider such participation essential to our maturing as a gospel-centered church.

Crossroad South Church currently supports four mission-related projects and desires to keep growing in generous, outward-facing partnership for the sake of the gospel.

Governance

The church is governed by a male elder board in which the pastor in charge is considered first among equals. Monthly board meetings review matters related to spiritual health, finances, missions, and the broader direction of the church.

The appointment of an elder follows the scriptural guidelines of 1 Timothy 3 and Titus 1 together with a more formal review of the church’s doctrinal understandings.

Apart from the elder board, the church has paid staff and also relies heavily on volunteers who give their time and talent to weekly ministry. A working committee meets regularly to deliberate on aspects of the worship service such as praise and worship, announcements, and preaching, reviewing the previous Sunday and preparing for the following Sunday.

Stewardship

The giving offered on Sundays and at other times is understood as stewardship. We believe New Testament teaching on giving calls individuals to cheerfully extend their resources, exercising faith in the work of the church and participating in the expansion of the kingdom of God.

Financial integrity and accountability are a high priority in the church. Transparency in bookkeeping and accounts should be in place, allowing members to access financial information for valid reasons.

From time to time, preferably each quarter, the financial health of the church is presented to the members.

Membership

All are welcome to become members of the community of faith. Those desiring membership are expected to align with the mission, vision, values, and beliefs of the church.

Membership is expressed through active and regular participation in Sunday services, Life Groups, and biblical stewardship.

Core Values

Gospel-Centered

All our dealings within and outside the community of faith should witness to the grace of which we ourselves have been recipients.

Deeply Biblical

The Word of God is studied, taught, and preached with the understanding that its right interpretation and application are crucial to the health of the church.

Breaking Down Barriers

The church should reflect the nature of the New Testament church where all are considered equally loved and cared for by the Triune Lord.

Missional Living

Every individual should exemplify the witness of the gospel wherever they may be: in the neighbourhood, school, college, or workplace.
