Galatians 5:1-16

WHAT IS CHRISTIAN FREEDOM?

•The Galatians were being taught by false teachers of a salvation that disengaged itself from Grace
•The slave and the adopted child (Gal 4:1-7)
•Works-based righteousness says, “Jesus + something= Salvation”, the true Gospel says, "Jesus + nothing= Salvation”
•It is a freedom from a fallen nature that seeks to self-justify

THE CHARACTER OF CHRISTIAN FAITH

•It understands that technically and objectively one is justified before God the Father
•It recognizes that one is an object of God’s Mercy and Grace
•The experiential aspect of freedom is to be experienced in the present and fully in the age to come (2 Cor 3:18)
•The Christian is one sense freed to love and respond to God as was originally determined by God
CONSTANT BREATH OF THE GOSPEL
•The Galatians have been distracted from the truth of the Gospel
•The Gospel is an offence to those who prefer to self-justify their righteousness
•Gospel Centred Runners- Breath In & Breathe Out the Gospel (Col 2:8)

The Guard Rails of Freedom in Christ

•Avoid Legalism and Licence
•Freedom from law does not do away with Holy conduct
•Love is the fruit of saving faith
•The Christian is set free to love and serve another in contrast to animal-like behaviour
